What does overwhelm mean?
Overwhelm most commonly means to be overcome with emotion as a result of an amount of something (work, stress, etc.) that’s just too much to handle. –Dictionary.com
In life, many things can overwhelm us. From high demands at work, relationship struggles, to unexpected health concerns. We are overcome with stress and it can become too much for us to handle on our own. Where do we turn in these moments?
Then Jesus said, āCome to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.
Matthew 11:28-30
Jesus invites us to come to him. To lay the weight of our burdens at his feet and receive rest for our tired souls. Take a moment to think about what is heavy on your heart. Begin to release it to Jesus. Take a deep breath in and slowly breathe out.
We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.
Romans 5:3-5
