On a calm night, the soapy water covered my hands as I washed the dishes while listening to the soothing sounds of a crackling fireplace on the YouTube ambiance channelāI felt at ease. It was not what most would call an exciting night, but it was what I needed at the time. Life is full of mundane moments like this. While these times aren’t the most appealing, they are fulfilling in many ways.
The beauty in the mundane
In the Collins dictionary, mundane is defined as something very ordinary and not at all interesting or unusual. We often overlook the routine moments in our lives. But, there is beauty found in the things we do each day. I have had some of the most transformational times in my life in everyday moments.
During my morning cup of hot coffee or tea, I have read the Bible and encouraging books that have changed my life. As I am putting my children to sleep at night, my affections for Christ are kindled as I sing sweet songs of worship to them. Doing laundry, I have listened to podcasts that have encouraged me in difficult seasons of my life. Lastly, while cleaning the bathroom, I have taken the time to pray for myself and others. These moments are such a blessing. We need help to take a step back to see them this way.
Christ is in the mundane
Christ is in the mundane. As ordinary and tedious as these moments can be, He is there. He is working in and through them. He is changing and molding us in the sometimes repetitiveness of our days so that we may reflect Him in our homes and the world.
Christ uses us in our everyday parenting to reveal His character to our children. As we spend time in His Word, He encourages and convicts us in areas of our lives. When we have conversations with people we may meet as we run errands, He provides them with a glimpse of who He is. Therefore, no moment is insignificant.
Remember
In conclusion, let us remember to appreciate everyday moments. To embrace being ordinary and welcome it with grateful hearts. Let us be present in our homes and thankful in all circumstances. Let our hearts be filled with hope and our homes full of love!
“How we spend our days is how we spend our lives.”
