Somedays, the struggle is real between getting up early to spend time in the Bible after a long night—or rolling over to go back to sleep. For me, this pattern can continue for days. Before I know it, it has been a week since I have opened my Bible, and sometimes it can be longer. I know someone out there can relate?
It is easy for us to push aside spending time in the Word—especially when we are tired. We eventually start to see the effects of it. We are less patient with our kids, easily irritated by our husbands, more prone to gossip—just to name a few. Below are some reminders that can help encourage us to read the Word on those days when we struggle.
Who God is
Spending time in The Bible reminds us of who God is. It allows us to build a relationship with Him through Christ. He reveals His heart, plan, and purposes as we read the scriptures then we can learn to align our lives with His Word.
Who we are
Spending time in the Bible reminds us of who we are. It reminds us that we are sinful and in desperate need of a Savior. As we grow more aware of our deep need for grace daily, we are more likely to extend the same grace to our families, friends, and others.
Our purpose
Spending time in the Bible reminds us of our purpose. It reminds us that we are created through God and for God. We can then learn to live our lives for His mission and not our own.
For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.
Colossians 1:16
The Gospel
Spending time in the Bible reminds us of The Gospel. We read about God’s redemptive plan from Genesis to Revelation. In His beautiful love story we are reminded that He did not leave us helpless or hopeless. He rescued us and has given us new life in Christ and He is coming back to restore all things.
Living Out Faith
Spending time in the Bible reminds us of those who have gone before us. We get to read about other’s who lived out their faith. It can encourage us to press on—especially in hard seasons of our lives. We remember that we can trust God in this journey of life no matter what happens.
It’s essential
In conclusion, taking time to read the Bible is a essential part of living out our faith. It affects how we see God, ourselves, people, and the attitude of our hearts as we take care of our homes.
Many of us are busy most days, and doing an in-depth study of a book of the Bible may not work for us. However, listening to the Bible while doing tasks around the house or meditating on scripture throughout the day may be better options. I do not think we have to have a set way when spending time in the Word. The most important thing is that we find what works for us individually and do it. If the struggle is real for you, I hope this post encourages you to find time throughout the day to spend time with God in His Word.
But he answered, “It is written, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.”
Matthew 4:4
